Astellas aims to create a robust R&D portfolio utilizing cutting-edge science and technology, and is enhancing its engineered biologics modalities, including multi-specific antibodies and Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs). We are seeking an accomplished and dynamic scientist to lead antibody engineering projects within our global Antibody Engineering group under Biologics Engineering unit in Tsukuba, Japan. This role will spearhead the design and development of next-generation biologics and drive innovative therapeutic programs, leveraging deep expertise in antibody engineering and oncology to advance our oncology pipeline. 【職務の内容 / Essential Job Responsibilities】

•Lead Antibody Engineering Projects: Plan, design, develop, and optimize bispecific/multi-specific antibodies, TCEs, engineered cytokines, ADCs, or multifunctional antibodies, including protein production and characterization.

•Team Leadership and Mentorship: Provides appropriate guidance to younger members on complex issues that arise in the research. He/she will also mentor and train younger members of project teams, thereby enhancing the scientific expertise of the team.

•Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with cancer biology, translational science, AI-ML, and clinical development and the South San Francisco Biologics Engineering teams to advance therapeutic candidates from discovery to preclinical stages.  Manage CROs, such as outsourced synthesis, and manage external partner research collaboration.

•Innovate, Evaluate, Implement Technologies: Stay at the forefront of antibody engineering advancements, evaluating and integrating novel technologies to enhance biologics discovery and optimization.

•Data Presentation and Reporting: Present findings to internal stakeholders and at scientific conferences and contribute to publications and patent applications.

【応募要件 / Qualifications】

＜必須 / Required＞

•PhD with 5+ years or MS with 8+ years of relevant experience in biological research.

•Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing monoclonal antibody, bispecific/multi-specific antibodies, TCEs, engineered cytokines, ADCs, or multifunctional antibodies.

•Desire and ability to work in cross-functional, flexible and team-oriented environment.

•Well-balanced communication skills (active & passive) in own language and in English.

•Excellent communication skills with a solid ability to articulate experimental plans, present research findings in meetings.

•Strong work ethic with a dedicated mindset of proactively identifying and filling gaps.

•Exceptional collaborative mindset to work with global project teams

•Willingness to take on tasks and responsibilities as needed in a dynamic environment

＜歓迎 / Preferred＞

•Strong background in oncology research, with familiarity in tumor-targeting biologics and immunotherapies.

•Related industry experience in antibody/protein engineering/biochemistry and molecular biology.

•Familiarity with biologics candidate nomination.

•Strong understanding of antibody structure/sequence and developability/function relationship.

•Track record of publications or patents in antibody engineering in oncology.

•Experience with CRO project management.

②裁量労働制の場合：裁量労働手当として職務グレードに応じて50,000～100,000円支給

③フレックスタイム制の場合：月間の所定労働時間を超えて勤務する時間に対して時間外勤務手当を支給

①Base salary: will be decided by the candidate's experience, skill and capability.

②When Discretionary Work System is applied: Discretionary work allowance will be paid.(50,000～100,000yen, based on the Grade)

③When Flextime System is applied: Overtime allowance will be paid for time worked in excess of prescribed working hours.
